Me And Him Call It Us

Me And Him Call It Us were a three-piece (later four-piece) mathcore band from Atlanta, Georgia that formed in 2003 and broke up in 2007. They put out two full-lengths in their initial run, with a decent amount of demos and unreleased material being shared by the band posthumously. On their debut, the band unleashes explosive, charged shrieks of ear-splitting noise, alongside heavy, choking riffs with shots of sharp dissonance, all delivered in unbridled blast-beat chaos and neck-snapping syncopation. With fuel only lasting for short bouts, the album is broken up by ambient, atmospheric interludes that are more impending doom than sweet serenity. The follow-up, Loss, takes the sound founded on their debut and widens their dynamic range, with elements of more "conventional" powerviolence, grindcore, and screamo being apparent in the mix at times. Both projects are definitely worth your time, especially if you're a fan of bands such as The Sawtooth Grin, Ed Gein, or As The Sun Sets. Members of Me And Him Call It Us also went to form some incredible bands, most notably Dead In The Dirt and O'Brother. Enjoy.

The Power & The Glory

The Power & The Glory were a four-piece metalcore band from Atlanta, Georgia. They began around 1996 as a five-piece under the name Downpour, and put out two releases. Admittedly, they're just alright. In the early 2000's and changed their name to The Power & The Glory. This is where things get really good. Under this moniker, they released one album. Call Me Armageddon. It came out in 2004 as a Deathwish release, and was produced by Kurt Ballou with artwork done by Jacob Bannon. This album is absolutely fantastic, and recalls the technical riffs and hard-hitting impact of bands such as Converge, with elements of crust punk and grindcore mixed in. Highly recommended and underrated, enjoy.

Car vs. Driver were a four-piece emo/post-hardcore band from Atlanta, Georgia that existed from 1993 to 1995. They released two full-lengths, an EP, and a split. All their recorded (and some live) material was later compiled and released by Stickfigure Recordings in 2005 as The Completeist. They took heavy influence from the DC scene, with the rhythmic complexity of bands like Jawbox or Fugazi and the melodic, heart-on-the-sleeve sensibilities of bands like Rites of Spring or One Last Wish. Portrait were a five-piece screamo band from Atlanta, Georgia that were around from 1996 to 2001. Following a number of EPs, their full discography was posthumously compiled by Stickfigure Records in 2004. They cite their influences are Inkwell, Frail and Indian Summer, which is a pretty good summation of where they sit sonically on the screamo spectrum. They blend the discordant with the tragically melodic, creating chaos that often yields to moments of serene melancholic clarity. Vocally, they're screeched and devastating, exactly what'd you want out of a screamo band on the brink of collapse. Thy even incorporate a viola on occassion, adding another unique dynamic to the mix. Overall, this is highly recommended for fans of bands such as Saetia (to add another name to the list). Enjoy.

After Words

After Words were a four-piece punk/melodic hardcore band from Atlanta, Georgia that were around from 1987 to 1989. They clearly took a lot of influence from Dischord bands such as Rites Of Spring, Embrace, and Gray Matter. Just a few years prior to After Words, those band had begun hardcore's evolution in a new direction, with melodic instrumentation and melancholic vocals, all while maintaining a distinctly punk energy. For these reasons they are often regarded as one of the earliest "emocore" bands, though that's a semi-controversial term to use in regards to bands from this era. Regardless, After Words put out only one album in their time, which was more than enough to cement their legacy for years. Their 1989 self-titled release is nothing short of fantastic, with dynamic guitar parts, melodic bass lines, and some standout songwriting. Not to mention the production on this album is noticeably clean without being too polished, with the band's strong performances being captured in its clear perfection. Definitely recommended if you're a fan of the aforementioned DC bands. Enjoy.

Inkwell were a four-piece screamo/emo/hardcore band from Atlanta, Georgia that were around in the mid 90's, but I can only confirm they were active in 1995 and 1996 before they broke up. As expectedly short-lived as they were, they managed to put out a handful of incredible tracks in that timespan. Taking their cues from bands such as Heroin and Indian Summer, they perfected the loud/quiet dynamic and vocal shredding of early emo/screamo that would define bands such as Saetia not too much later on. Luckily they uploaded their discography to Bandcamp in 2017 so it is readily available, but I also included links here for the hell of it. Enjoy!

Slow Fire Pistol

Slow Fire Pistol are a four-piece hardcore/screamo band from Atlanta, Georgia that began in 2016. They feature ex-members of Foundation, but stand on their own in the excellence in the current screamo/hardcore hybrid, especially through a recent split with the you-already-know awesome Portrayal of Guilt. Slow Fire Pistol certainly hold their own prior to that, with an insane discography to this date of all hits no misses, one I cannot recommend enough. Enjoy.

With Horses In Her Eyes were a four-piece screamo band from Atlanta, Georgia that were around briefly in 2006 before changing their name to Histories. They only released one five-track EP, titled Prologue. The first four tracks are all hard-hitters, featuring some heavy Funeral Diner and Kodan Armada influence. The final track, Page 5, is just an arpeggiated acoustic guitar and screaming. It's certainly the most unique track on here, which is saying something on an EP where every song delivers. Enjoy.

Apostle are a three-piece hardcore band from Marietta, Georgia that began in 2017. They've had two releases thus far, with their recent LP Sufferer being the most notable. Sonically, they take from a multitude of heavy music leanings, with Trap Them and Birds in Row being the two names I think draw the most parallels. But really, if you're a fan of unique, down-tuned screamy hardcore, Apostle is right up your alley. Sufferer is highly recommended, though Shallow Graves is also an incredibly sharp offering. Enjoy.

Alright, here we go, finally getting around to the highly-requested Microwave. These guys are a four-piece indie/alternative/emo band from Atlanta, Georgia that got started in 2012. Thus far they've released two full-lengths and a handful of EP's. Sonically, they're reminiscent of bands like Manchester Orchestra, Taking Back Sunday, Motion City Soundtrack, Have Mercy, Balance & Composure, and Sainthood Reps, or something like that. Full disclosure I have not listened to them much, but give have to give them kudos for the variety in their songs. Even with casual listening of a few, they don't seem to fall into any formulaic traps, and every track offers something fresh. So yeah, they've been requested to death and I finally managed to pull together their entire discography, so please do enjoy.
