The Spirit Of Versailles

The Spirit Of Versailles were a four-piece screamo band from Sioux Falls, South Dakota that were around between 1998 and 2000. Like many of the best hardcore/screamo bands, they were short-lived but put out a ton of great material in that small amount of time. The Spirit Of Versailles play a very emotionally wounded and vulnerable style of hardcore, which makes for a gut-wrenching listen. Though they do incorporate the noisy blast beat catharsis, the band also has a very melodic side, which really comes through in both the bass and guitar. There are some gorgeous rhythms being played, which are as serene as they are sad. The vocals also tip the scale between an all-out squeal of a scream, and a very torn spoken tone, which often sounds like he's on the verge of tears. It's all very passionate stuff, which is part of what made them both so good and so influential. Enjoy.
