Jacques Rocque

Jacques Rocques were a three-piece emo/screamo band from Rochester, Michigan that formed in 2011 and have been inactive since 2013. They only put out two EP's, at least as far as I'm aware of. Their input is minimal, limited to only 6 songs of noisy, jittery math rock-esque screamo with fairly lo-fi recording quality. If you're into bands like Merchant Ships and William Bonney, this will be up your alley. Enjoy.

California Cousins

California Cousins are a three-piece emo/post-hardcore/math rock/pop punk band from Rochester, New York that began in 2011. Following two EP's, they released their debut full-length earlier this year, titled Distant Relatives, and it packs A LOT into its 10 tracks. Sonically, the band encapsulates influence from a litany of semi-related genres (such as the aforementioned), and bring in both melodic and screamed vocals with harsh, distorted guitar tones juxtaposed with mathy, noodly lines and off-kilter rhythms. They don't ever get stuck in one sound, which really makes each song truly distinct, and a varied listen in both the individual songs and the album as a whole. It's like they take the rauccous energy of Prince Daddy & The Hyena, with the melodic noodles of You Blew It!, Marietta, or Snowing and the shredding rhythmic dynamics of The Fall Of Troy. Or something like that, California Cousins aren't the easiest band to pin down, but this album is fucking great, and will definitely appeal to fans of most of the shit posted on this here lil blog. Enjoy.

Polar Bear Club

Here's a band that's been requested a few times. I can't believe I haven't posted them on here earlier, actually. They could be one of my favourite modern bands, and have been for a long time now. They almost embody everything that the bands I post on here have, that's how awesome, representative, and diverse they are. I'm not sure why there's an introduction to this post, but it's certainly deserved, because Polar Bear Club are an amazing band.

Polar Bear Club are a five-piece post-hardcore/pop punk/indie band from Rochester/Syracuse, New York that formed in 2005. They signed to Bridge Nine in 2009. Since their inception, these guys have just been "killin' it". Everything they do is unbelievable. They're a powerful live band, an endless supply of mind-blowing recorded material, and super consistent in both. The band's sound is quite distinct. The vocals are harsh, but always carry strong melodies, and sometimes break into a more softly sung voice. The songs are super catchy, even with the melding of different instrumental bits. The band is certainly technically proficient, and often show it off, while remaining incredibly tight. They know how to play, how to write a song, and to fucking perform it. Their energy is unmatched. So check them out if you haven't, this is one band you don't want to miss out on.

Such Gold

Such Gold are a five-piece pop punk/melodic hardcore band from Rochester, New York that formed in 2009. They've been very active since then, constantly touring and putting out records. In terms of sound, I guess they mix the gruff, vicious vocals of hardcore with the melodic guitar leads of modern pop punk, and throw them into this concoction of fast-paced, intense, but still somewhat catchy music. It seems that the farther into their career they go, the more the melodic hardcore aspect of their sound seems to take over the entirety of the band, while the earlier stuff is much more pop punk-oriented. So I guess they've got a bit of a spectrum thing going on, which would probably be a good indication of where to start if you're just going into them. So, here's everything I've got from them. Enjoy.
