Feverchild

Feverchild are a five-piece emo/post-hardcore band from Ghent, Belgium that have been active since 2021. Following their self-titled debut EP, they put out their first full-length earlier this year. Had I heard this band without knowing that, I'd guess that this came out 20 years earlier. The band wears their influences on their sleeves, taking notes from all the great emo acts of the 90's, including Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas Is The Reason, Christie Front Drive, Elliott, the usual suspects. That's not to say they're purely derivative, as they do blend the varied array of sounds from that era into one seamless sound. Heavier riffs breaking up the clean, meandering arpeggios, which gives them a viscera not always found in modern iterations of the genre. Add in an acoustic cut for variety, and Altering A Memory is one of the most solid albums from this corner of the genre to come out this year. Enjoy.

Rise And Fall

Rise And Fall were a four-piece hardcore band from Ghent, Belgium that began in 2002 and have been inactive since 2012. They put out four full-lengths in their time, three of which were through Deathwish Inc. Additionally, they put out a split (below as bonus tracks on Hellmouth), an EP and a live album (which was from their 2012 record release show). They also put out a demo which I unfortunately do not have. Sonically, they took influence from metallic hardcore and crust punk, and would appeal to fans of bands such as Trap Them, Tragedy, Integrity, and Converge. With their four flawless albums, they are one of most consistent and essential hardcore acts to come out in the past 20 years or so, and I cannot recommend them enough. Enjoy.

Midnight Souls

Midnight Souls were a five-piece melodic hardcore band from Belgium that formed in 2009 and ended in 2013. An EP, a split, a full-length, and a swan song are all that make up their discography, but that's all that's needed to prove what a good band they were. Their music had a very dark and desperate tone to it, and they played with such an bleeding intensity that every song sounds like their last (especially "Always"). Dark, pummelling and passionate summarize what Midnight Souls did best, and I'm sure that combination is the golden ticket to winning undying affection for a band. If you dig early Touché Amoré, More Than Life, Xerxes, or Dead Swans, you'll definitely be into Midnight Souls. Enjoy.

Oathbreaker

Oathbreaker are a hardcore/black metal band from Ghent, Belgium that formed in 2008. Since then, they've released two full-lengths and an EP of epic, intense, and dynamic music of vigorously aggressive soundscapes. Pounding drums and blast beats, assaultive guitar riffs and tremolo picks, crushing, distorted bass, uncontrollably possessed vocals? Indeed. This band is an essential for anyone into modern hardcore, especially the darker, more metallic stuff. They put out a split with Amenra which I can't find, but the song that appears on it, "Agartha", is also on Eros|Anteros. Oathbreaker are definitely a band to check out, their stuff is super heavy but technically proficient and consistently fresh with different ideas. They are definitely one of the best bands currently on Deathwish. Enjoy.
