Dead Tired

Dead Tired are a five-piece hardcore punk band from Hamilton, Ontario that formed in 2015. They were formed by Alexisonfire vocalist George Petit during the brief time AOF were on hiatus, though Dead Tired continue to be active today. They play straight-up classic hardcore punk, in all its angry and energetic glory. George's vocals are fucking A+ plus, as expected of course. Their self-titled debut is a fantastic album for anyone looking for some straight-up, gritty modern hardcore. Enjoy.

Left For Dead

Left For Dead were a metallic hardcore band from Hamilton, Ontario that were originally around from 1996-1998. Initially they were formed by members of another band called Chokehold, though the member of most note here is probably vocalist Chris Colohan. Besides Left For Dead, he was also in The Swarm, Burning Love, more recently Sect, and of course, the legendary Cursed. Left For Dead initially put out a few spits and one EP of dark, gritty hardcore, with Colohan's intensive vocals to top it off. Though they didn't last long, their legacy has stayed intact over the years. First, there was a reunion show in 2004. Then, a near complete discography was released in 2006 by Deranged Records. In 2013, the band actually reunited again for a few shows, as well as to record a new EP, simply titled 1. In addition to these, a new, remastered and comprehensive discography was released, which included all the band's recorded studio material prior to the new EP. I also included a compilation that was released back in 1998, which included all their material from various splits. It basically includes their discography (prior to the remastered version), and live tracks from a split they actually put out with Chokehold that weren't included on any subsequent compilations. Enjoy.

The Dirty Nil

The Dirty Nil are a three-piece punk/rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They began in 2006 while still in high school, but have only been properly touring/recording since 2011. These guys take obvious influence from bands like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements (especially circa Sorry Ma), along with the dirty fuzziness of bands like Nirvana. The Dirty Nil play upbeat, energetic, rock and roll music, not much more needs to be said. These guys sound like they're putting everything they've got into it, and write some of the catchiest songs around for a modern punk band. Like The Replacements, they make classic rock influence cool, by occasionally throwing in guitar leads and such, showing that these guys can really play (and they do Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and Neil Young covers, how awesome is that??). The drums are pounding, the "mothafuckin' fuzz bass" is rocking, and the vocal harmonies are stellar. They drop some funny yet relatable lyrics, and everything about this band just screams "good time". They put out their last 7" on Fat Wreck Chords, and are supposed to have their debut full-length coming out this year. Any fan of good, energetic music has to check this band out, they are probably one of my favourites in their genre around, and just all around a great rock band. Try and support them if you can, and enjoy.

Counterparts

Here's another Shadman request.

Counterparts are a five-piece band from Hamilton, Ontario that began in 2007. A few different genre tags could be attached to them, such as hardcore, metalcore, emotional hardcore, melodic hardcore, progressive, whatever. They've put out two full-lengths, with a third one coming later this year, and a split with a great band called Exalt that everyone should check out as well.

The vocals are really guttural and intense (though they are broken up with some clean portions), which when paired with the lyrics, make up the "emotional" aspect of the band (though I'm well aware of the many qualms with using that term). The band is made up of incredibly technically proficient musicians, who can lock in super-tight with each other, even through some very challenging parts. Every instrument plays a crucial role in creating each song, and they all do an excellent job of knowing when to display some technical prowess and when to hold that back. The guitars do display some stunning fretboard fury and harmonies, as well as some heavy chugging parts, but can also play some lush, gentle, clean chords to balance them out. The rhythm section also keeps things diverse, as well as solid. Enjoy.
