Big Ups

Big Ups were a four-piece post-hardcore/noise rock band from Brooklyn, New York that were active from 2010 to 2019. They put out three full-lengths and a few EP's and splits. This is the sound you get when you turn bands like Drive Like Jehu, Lungfish, Q And Not U, Unwound, or Moss Icon up to 11. It's manic, feedback-laden, and distorted; even in slower moments there's an undercurrent of tension. To top it off, you've got spoken/screamed vocals delivering distraught and existential lyrics. Their debut, Eighteen Hours Of Static is probably their most revered output, and for good reason. If you're new to this band, that's probably the best jumping off point (no pun intended). Its follow-up LPs are fantastic as well, though slightly toned down. These are loose comparisons, but fans of bands including Single Mothers, Show Me The Body, PIssed Jeans, METZ, and The Men should definitely check this out. Enjoy!
