Hey, ily! are a five-piece emo band from Billings, Montana that began in 2020. Obviously a little late to the party on this one, but never late than ever I suppose? This project put out the fantastic (/ > ; ) and Internet Breath last year, which are some of many staple releases coming up in the discussions of "fifth-wave emo", an admittedly novel but equally exciting idea. With the rise of some new projects loosely identified with the genre, but with their own spins on it completely unique to their predecessors, it only makes sense to mark the change. In the case of Hey, ily! they pull influence from lo-fi bedroom pop and hints of chiptune to construct some of the best "synth-emo" ever put out. If that mid-song break in "Don't Talk About It (Your Weird Complex)" doesn't get you excited for the next stage of the genre, I don't know what will. Enjoy.
