Neil Perry

I've noticed a surprising amount of requests for this band, which is really nice to see. Taking their name from the Dead Poets Society character, Neil Perry were a four-piece screamo/post-hardcore band from New Jersey They formed in 1998 and broke up in 2002. They were signed to Level Plane, which put them in the same category as bands like Saetia and pg.99, who we all know and love. Neil Perry played in the same vein as them, keeping things very dark and very chaotic, and calling it quits before that got too old.

Despite that, they did have a fairly prolific tenure (for bands in their genre), since they released quite a few splits, a handful of EP's, and made numerous compilation appearances in their four years. All of their released material, plus some new stuff, was released on the compilation Lineage Situation in 2003. It contained two discs, the first being all audio and the second being all video. Only the audio is posted here. Lineage Situation is really all you need from the band, since it contains all their recorded material and more, but I included their splits and such because they worked with some amazing bands (Joshua Fit For Battle, Usurp Synapse, etc.) that are worth having both sides of the split for.

Neil Perry are also noted for having members that were involved in a ton of other great bands. When they formed, they contained members from You And I and Red All Over, and when they broke up, members split off into other bands including Hot Cross, Joshua Fit For Battle, Welcome The Plague Year, A Life Once Lost, The Now, Get Fucked, and Superstitions Of The Sky. Now that is a fucking impressive résumé. Enjoy.

Svffer

Svffer are a four-piece hardcore/grindcore/powerviolence band from Münster/Berlin, Germany that formed in 2013. Since then, they've picked up quite a bit of traction for being one of the most brutally aggressive bands around. Seriously, everything they've done so far is nothing but dark, violent, and slaughtering to the soul. They make fantastic use of dynamics in their songs, so they're not a one-trick bludgeoning fest. Svffer know how to build intensity, which makes for a blood-boiling listening experience. We could go on and on with the hyperbolic metaphors, but to keep it simple I'll just say this. This band is highly recommended if you're into the darker and more aggressive side of music, Svffer should be on your radar. Enjoy.

Saintly Rows

Saintly Rows were a three-piece screamo/emo/post-rock band from Albuquerque, New Mexico that formed in 2012 and unfortunately broke up about a month ago. They're one of the many bands I've been meaning to do for a long time, but for some reason or another just never got around to it. They've continued to blow me away with each release they've put out in the past few years, so I cannot recommend you check them out enough. They combine the classic chaotic screamo of bands like Off Minor and Daïtro with more modern post-rock/emo hybrids such as Old Gray and Pianos Become The Teeth, and then throw in some Brand New for good melodic measure. Their lyrics are astounding, the vocals are passionate, and the instrumental side of things is incredibly tight as they weave through quiet/loud dynamics seamlessly. They share members with another great band called Drifter. Enjoy.

Penfold

Penfold were a four-piece emo/indie/post-hardcore band from North Jersey that formed somewhere between 1996 and 1997. Their sound is in the same vein as bands like The Promise Ring and Mineral, which are obvious staples for anyone interested in emo/indie in that era. Penfold's main active years came just after bands like that were at their peak, so in a way they sound like a culmination of what had been going on in emo throughout the 90's, and put it all together right around the turn of the century. Though Penfold never got the amount of attention the aforementioned bands did, they were arguably just as good and pumped out some classic songs such as "I'll Take You Everywhere" and "June". Though they're not genre-defining or revolutionary, they put out some amazing material in the time they were around. They broke up in 2003, though have played a handful of reunion shows throughout the years, so perhaps they're not completely done yet. Enjoy.

ROAM

ROAM are a five-piece pop punk band from Eastbourne, UK that formed in 2012. They take their name from a The Story So Far song, though that's not all they share with them. ROAM sound a lot like TSSF, not that that's an issue necessarily. Besides TSSF, they're comparable to Neck Deep, Knuckle Puck, etc. Pretty much any typical modern pop punk band (which isn't an insult, if it ain't broke, there's no point in fixin' it). They've put out a few EP's and have a full-length coming in January of the new year, so that's something to look out for. This band is always requested, so here they finally are. Enjoy.

FIDLAR

Note: All the links are down due to copyright issues, except for "Everything Else"

FIDLAR (an acronym for Fuck It Dog, Life's A Risk) are a four-piece punk band from Los Angeles, California that formed in 2009. They've made a name for themselves through loud guitars, cheap beer, cocaine, and a serious lack of fucks to give. Their mission statement seems to be a lack of one. Even after two full-lengths and a slew of other material, they're staying true to the Descendents' mantra "I don't want to grow up". Sonically, FIDLAR are more in the vein of bands such as Black Lips or Wavves, preferring to keep things loose and loud. It's dirty, grimy, Californian garage punk, there's not much else that needs to be said. FIDLAR are basically a celebration of late nights, bad decisions, shitty substances, nonstop parties and youthful cynicism. For a list of vices, they seem to be having a pretty good time with it. However, their most recent album deals more with getting over that, since their singer is now clean/sober, which makes for an nice change in subject matter and an interesting transition between the early and the new.

They've gotten a shit ton of requests lately, so this is for all of you. Everything Else isn't an actual compilation, it's just all the random songs, covers, etc. that I could find, and unfortunately don't have a whole lot of information on most of them. Regardless, there's plenty of stuff in there to enjoy, so please do.

Koji

Andrew Koji Shiraki (who just goes by Koji) is a singer-songwriter from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He got started upon signing to Run For Cover in 2010. With nothing but his own voice and acoustic guitar, he managed to write some incredibly catchy and compelling songs that caught the attention of anyone who heard them. His voice is fantastic, and there's this energy when he performs that overflowing with passion and sincerity, which is what makes his music so powerful. He's heavily involved in numerous organisations and charities, which just goes to show that his passions are so strong that they go outside of just music. His more recent material, and debut full-length (which is now two years old) incorporate more instrumentation, which just elevate his core songwriting to new levels.

Koji is one person I definitely encourage you to support, not only is his music amazing, but he just flat-out seems like a great guy. Most of his music is available through his music on a Name-Your-Price basis, which is commendable and deserving of anything that can be given. If that's not a possibility, enjoy it here. I should have done a post on him long ago, so here it is, very overdue (as so many posts are, haha). Enjoy.
