Clyde Webb

Band submission. Clyde Webb is one awesome dude from some place in the Northwest. He just put out his first full-length, as well as his first to feature electric guitars and drums (though there still are some songs that feature an acoustic). And I must say, this is fucking awesome. I'm seriously really digging this. I'm sensing some Latterman influence, particularly with the vocals (though much sloppier, as is everything, in a good way though), some pop punk vibes (I keep thinking of Jawbreaker for some reason), some Gainesville-punk hints maybe, and some folk-punk in there as well (which is kind of what he was doing on his previous releases). His lyrics, as simple as they may be, are really endearing and relatable, which I found myself focusing on and enjoying quite a lot. Overall, this is just amazing. I really appreciate him sharing this with me, and seriously advise checking this, as well as his other stuff, out.

Moon Bandits

Band submission. Moon Bandits are a two-piece folk punk band from Los Angeles, California. I suppose they do warrant comparisons to other great folk punk bands, such as Ghost Mice, Ramshackle Glory, or Defiance, Ohio, but they're way too definitive to dismiss them as being just another. For one, the instrumentation they use consists mainly of a banjo and violin, which sound incredible together. There's tons of great harmonies, the melodies are catchy and memorable, and the lyrics are well-written and could have come from an anarcho-punk band or something (as well as the artwork, actually). Everything is just great, all around. I'm personally really enjoying this, and highly suggest checking it out.

Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate)

Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) is an emo band formed by Keith Latinen in 2006 in Fenton, Michigan as a a solo project. Soon after Cathy Latinen (his wife) joined and became the only other full-fledged member of the band. The two also run the amazing label Count Your Lucky Stars together. Despite the two being the only members technically, they frequently collaborate with others to form a full line-up.

E!E!(IWALE) are known for carrying on the legacy of the great 90's emo bands, such as Mineral and American Football. However, despite revitalising this sound, they do not exactly replicate it. Keith's voice is very distinct. It often ranges from being whisper-quiet to searingly high, and is actually somewhat reminiscent of Jónsi from Sigur Rós, though put through an emo filter and made distinct. His lyrics are also beautifully poetic. The guitars are very clean, gentle, and melodic, which I suppose is fairly prototypical of many emo bands. E!E! also integrates some very noodle-y sensibilities, with a lot of entwining between the numerous guitars. Throughout this, they also manage to incorporate many dynamic changes, through crescendos and climaxes in addition to the soft, quiet parts. Oh, and they're also sad all the time.
