Boston Manor

After months and months of constant requests for this band, I finally caved and decided to do them (that's what she said). Basically these guys are a five-piece pop punk/emo band from Blackpool, England that formed in 2013, and have been on the rise ever since. Their debut album came out last year on Pure Noise Records, and it seems to have been very well-received. This band is for fans of other modern pop punk giants, such as Neck Deep, Trash Boat, Seaway, State Champs and such. They've also got a tinge of emo influence, and some slightly more aggressive vocals, which definitely makes Boston Manor stand out as a band of their own. As you guys know, I'm not a huge fan of this kind of sound, but can't deny they're a talented band, and I'm sure a ton of you will dig this. Enjoy.

Donovan Wolfington

Donovan Wolfington are a four-piece punk/indie/emo band from New Orleans, Louisana that formed in 2011. They've quickly made a name for themselves as being a fantastic alternative rock band, with a knack for catchy riffs and catchier hooks. This band has a fantastic energy to them, and fans of their 90's alt-rock-loving Topshelf labelmates will definitely treat them with nothing but love. The guitar work, the songwriting, just the overall sound and energy of these guys is standout. They've got a unique charisma to them which I'm sure a ton of you guys will like, though you've probably heard of them by now (this post is waaaaaay overdue). Enjoy.

Thisismenotthinkingofyou

Thisismenotthinkingofyou is a screamo/emoviolence project from Derby, England, created by Shaun Hancock, who is also its sole member. Since 2015, he has put out a slew of releases of intensive music in the vein of modern screamo legends such as Loma Prieta and Beau Navire. They're shrill and chaotic, and continue to improve with each release. The "skramz" name matches the sincerity of this project's ferocity. Or something like that. Enjoy.

Scowler

Scowler are a five-piece post-hardcore/screamo band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin that formed in 2012. It's just come to my attention that this band released a new (and final) song last year, which in turn made me realize I haven't posted them yet. They put an EP a few years back, How To Find Light, which was absolutely incredible. The band crafts this unique sound that sort of takes influence from Glassjaw, but pushes the screamo aspect of it to 11. It's an incredibly intense and blistering listen, and I highly recommend checking it. The follow-up to their debut came a year later, which was a split with the also-incredible Youth Funeral. On a complete side note, their last LP was phenomenal, right?? As for Scowler, they hadn't really been active since that 2014 split. However, last May, they released a new song that went completely under my radar until now. As expected, Scowler kills it once again.  Unfortunately, that song will be their last. Anyway, this band is highly recommended, enjoy.

Jank

JANK were a three-piece emo/indie/pop punk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that were around from 2015 to 2016. Though they only ever put out one EP and one LP (as well as a remix album), they've managed to garner quite a bit of attention in their short tenure. This is partially due to vocalist/guitarist Matt Diamond being a former member of the excellent Panucci's Pizza, but also in part due to JANK's amazing music on its own. It's pretty tough to nail down their sound, which is a blend of more old school indie rock with the sensibility of more modern "emo revival" bands, or whatever you'd like to call them. Lyrically, they've got a strong sense of humour, which is expected from someone as vocally charismatic as Matt. Basically, they're sole album, Awkward Pop Songs is aptly titled. The requests have been pouring in for this band, so I figured I'd share them here finally. You can get their stuff on Bandcamp on a name-your-price basis, but I suppose it'd also be best to share them here in case there's anyone who haven't heard this band (and you'll definitely want to). Enjoy.

EDIT: I've been getting quite a bit of flak through messages and comments and such for posting this band on here. To put it frankly, there have been allegations of sexual abuse involving singer/guitarist Matt Diamond. These allegations are what's generally suspected to be the reason Jank broke up. Someone left a comment with a link to his full response on the issue if you'd like to read it in further detail. By NO means would I ever support someone even suspected of sexual assault; it's one of the most heinous crimes you can commit to another human being, and if these allegations are true (in any sex assault case) than I sincerely hope there is such thing as a hell so sub-human primeape rapist pieces of shit can burn eternally. However, I am also someone who sees a distinct difference in someone's art and the artist themselves. Perhaps you don't share this opinion, and that's absolutely fine. Personally, as long as there is no direct effect on their art or work, an individual's own actions/morality do not affect my enjoyment of their material. In cases such as this I would certainly encourage abstaining from giving the artist any form of direct support, whether it be monetary value or simply positive encouragement. However, I for one try and take the content as an entity of its own, which is meant to be enjoyed separate of the writer's personal life (again, unless those negative traits directly tie into the content). This is all purely opinion, of course. If you are someone who does not see any difference between the two and are offended by this band being on here, I do apologize, but will not take them down. If someone wants to enjoy their music purely based on their music, this would be the ideal place to do so, since this site and these links have 0 connection with the artist (in this particular post, at least). It can be argued that this is a "promotion" of the music, which is technically true. However, that's why I wanted to make this edit to address this issue, so people can use their own discretion as to whether or not they want to indulge in a band like this. If the music is of interest to you, and any controversy surrounding the band has no effect on it for someone, then great, here it is readily available. If not, I've written this overtly long disclaimer to make everyone at least aware of the issue, and what they choose to do beyond that is their choice. I hope that cleared things up a bit, I know I just kind of rambled for an unnecessarily long time, but it felt like it's something I had to discuss in detail.

Charmer

I noticed a few requests for this band, and after giving them a listen I just had to share them. Charmer are a five-piece emo/indie band from Marquette, Michigan that formed back in 2015. This band has a really cool sound that fans of  bands like Modern Baseball and Tigers Jaw will take an immediate liking to. They're also got some really good lyrics and melodies, which make for some unforgettable songs. This is a relatively new band that are definitely one to get excited about, since it seems to be increasingly rare for a band to come out with this sound and not sound like a painful carbon copy of another. Charmer are familiar, but far from redundant. I'm psyched to see what this band continues to do in the future, and highly recommend checking out what they've already accomplished up until now. Bold

I just got done doing Judge's discography, so inevitably I had to throw Bold on here too. These guys are another NYHC band that helped popularize the youth crew and straight edge movements. Originally called Crippled Youth, they recorded their debut 7" in 1985 before switching names to Bold, under which they released their debut LP Speak Out. After a few years together, they broke up in 1993. Their final release was the LP Looking Back, which was released in 1991, though recorded in 1989. Thus why their discography album is titled The Search: 1985-1989. Their reunion in 2005 coincided with the release of their discography on Revelation Records (just like Judge), though they have not been active since 2007. I don't know what else needs to be said, these guys are a must-know hardcore classic, enjoy.

Judge

Judge are a five-piece hardcore band from New York City that formed in 1987 and broke up in 1991. They reunited in 2013, and have been playing shows ever since. I don't know how much introduction this band needs. They're easily one of the best hardcore/youth crew bands of their time, and I don't think there's much dispute there. They had a revolving door of members, many of who would also play in other notable bands, such as Youth Of Today, Side By Side, Project X, Chain Of Strength, the list really does go on.

Conveniently in 2005, Revelation Records put a compilation that included Judge's entire discography. It includes their two EP's, one full-length (titled Bringin' It Down) plus a bunch of demos and unreleased material. In addition, it contains an early version of Bringin' It Down that's become known as Chung King Can Suck It, which was only available as a very limited pressing or bootleg before. That discography is what's available below, and I can't recommend enough grabbing this if classic straight edge/youth crew is your thing, because this shit is essential. Enjoy.

Jesuit

Jesuit were a four-piece hardcore/metalcore band from Virginia Beach, Virginia that were originally around from 1995 to 1999. In 2011, they played a few reunion shows, in addition to releasing a discography LP. Jesuit had a few notable members, including Nate Newton of Converge and Old Man Gloom, as well as Brian Benoit, who was a member of The Dillinger Escape Plan in their earlier years. As you might have guessed with their other affiliations, Jesuit are an incredibly heavy band that plays a sludgy style of metalcore that's often very noisy and dissonant. Their output is quite small, which features one demo, 2 EP's, and one compilation appearance. All of this is included on their 2011 Discography release below. Enjoy.

Unbroken

Unbroken were a five-piece hardcore/metalcore band from San Diego, California that formed in 1991 and broke up in 1995. They were associated with straight edge during their initial run. Though they had a relatively short existence, their members were active in a ton of other bands, including Swing Kids, Julia, Over My Dead Body, Kill Holiday, Narrows, Some Girls, the list goes on and on. Even with their activity in all of these other projects, I think it's safe to say that Unbroken is their crowning achievement (though Swing Kids would definitely be a major competitor) Regardless, Unbroken are heralded as being one of the best and most influential hardcore bands to ever exist, and their music is the only testament needed to back that statement up.

Unbroken strike me as being a band that are part of someone's life more than just entertaining background music. Their lyrics and modus operandi was definitely to inspire, and share in their own personal struggles in a way that their entire fanbase could relate to and find some kind of solidarity in. I'm not sure if any of this is making sense, but basically what I'm getting is that Unbroken are a band who have changed lives for the better, and continue to do so.

Since they first broke up in 1995, they've reunited several times between 2010 and 2014 to play shows and continue to spread their music. Unfortunately, they did have to play one other reunion show as early as 1998. It was a benefit for the family of guitarist, Eric Allen, who committed suicide that year. However, even with the unfortunate loss of an integral member, Unbroken continue to be a positive force in the hardcore community, and with  compilation releases such as the ones below, their legacy will easily be saved for years to come. Enjoy.
